Feast and Furious Cafe Mural

Artsy Daphy started furiously as we completed our first mural of 2016! The Feast and Furious Cafe Mural on Abell Road, Kuching, Sarawak, Borneo, Malaysia got itself a feature on Borneo Post! 😀

Artists create iconic murals in city centre

Up-close shot of the left side of the mural. The pup in my bicycle is Repsol! She’s the sweet little pup that our Client rescued on one of his rides. Janani’s on the Vespa, and Alex’s on the Ducati. The guy above Alex is Eddy Merckx, a professional cyclist and on his left, Valentino Rossi.

On the right, the Norton!

And Michael Schumacher on the corner of the building, cheering on all drivers 🙂

The whole thing took about 14 days to complete with one week on my yellow magic carpet!

During our two weeks there, we met tons of curious and interesting people too. This very friendly couple came up and asked, “You, drew this? That is er.. Rossi?”. When I replied, “Yes, you recognize him?”, they said proudly, “Yes yes! We’re from Italy!” and pointed at Rossi and the Ducati. 😀

And this guy was touring Malaysia with his little sister. This is probably the fifth picture he made his sister take. They were so cute and made me want to travel with my sibling too!

Janani and I bring to you the first and most important step to painting!

Our team has been mad busy with this installation piece putting every single day’s free time to cutting a ton of reusable plastic bottles and painting them. We can’t wait to share with you the reason why we slave away everyday to bring you this very meaningful piece! Stay tuned!

Mural of the Three Little Kids and an Autumn Tree
Over the Gawai holidays, I was given an opportunity to paint this really fun piece!
The Client intended to have a mural of their children playing on a wall in their garden.
Before: The wall and I

Took this picture to estimate the size of the little humans later.
Wall size: 2.6m x 6.5m
Paint: Murobond Murowash
After several discussions and a couple of sketches, we finalized with this sketch:
Sketched Proposal done with Photoshop

Finished piece: Mural of the Three Little Kids and an Autumn Tree
Of course, the painting came out completely different from the sketch, but I was super pleased with it. Somehow, the tree looked to me like it came out of one of the fairy tale books I used to read as a child. Ooh, the Client managed to add a real physical seesaw and we integrated it with the painting, giving it so much more life!
The Client’s idea of a tree with red leaves was genius, although I was against it in the beginning. I have to admit, if it were any other color, it wouldn’t have stood out and have such a cheerful vibe.
Just playing around with some effects on Photoshop

Love this pixel version most!
It was such a pleasure working on this one! Can’t wait for the next! 😀
“Nothing to fear because Optimus has got my back!”

Batman’s Room
Was honored that this young entrepreneur, Lionel, contacted me to get me to paint in his new hostel called HERO in Kuching. It’s a budget hostel with a great location, and a really nice, friendly owner! Here’s the hostel’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/herohostel
It was a very fun project that took me about 2-3 weekends to complete (Transformers and Ironman room took a weekend each). A lot of work done to the place was with his own bare hands too. The place is now operating and getting pretty good reviews.. Check this really value for money stay if you ever visit Kuching, Sarawak, Borneo!
The Field Bar is a new sports bar in town. They wanted five football legends on their wall above the bar table. The first of the five is Eric Cantona.
Used grid lines to get the proportions and spacing right as the other 4 portraits will be done weeks apart.
Decided to shade the portrait with sketchy lines to give it a more masculine, rough and tough look.
After a combined 12 hours the mural was completed with a pencil, eraser, ruler, paintbrushes and black wall paint.
Me and my finished piece. I honestly had no idea how to complete it in the start, but I just knew I was going to finish it. The experiences from all these exciting projects make me more confident yet humbled each time. Each experience is different and unique. Each make me grow in different ways. Each helps me discover something new about me and about Art itself. I am a grateful little girl. Come at me challenges!
